A New You in the New Year
Ahhh, the New Year. It’s great, isn’t it? It’s a clean slate, a chance to start over, a time for all of us to give our goals and dreams get some much-needed attention!
For me, I feel like every January is a chance to go out and do something great, and I’m sure a lot of you can agree with me! We’re all wired for greatness. We all want to kick life in the teeth!
What’s actually true, however, is that some of us will feel like we got kicked in the teeth, come next December 31. I’m sure a lot of you reading this blog want to either eliminate pain, or keep your pain gone, in 2014. You want to create changes that will last. I know many of you feel like a hamster trapped in the hamster-wheel-of-pain. You’re simply running in circles, essentially chasing your own tail, trying to find a solution to your pain.
What if this year is different?
Do you even believe it can be?
Personally, I believe that the body has an amazing ability to change and heal itself, if you simply give it a chance.
I was reading Re-Awaken the Gian Within by Tony Robbins this week, and very early on in the book he was talking about how to create lasting change. He outlined three simple steps that you and I can take to create lasting and consistent change. I wanted to take a couple minutes and share them with you, because I think these three things have everything to do with you eliminating your pain.
1. Raise Your Standards
It’s time to STOP accepting “You’ll always be this way,” “You’re old,” “It’s hereditary,” and “You need to stop running (or golfing, or squatting, or using stairs, etc.).” Raise your standards, people! Your body is designed for movement. It’s in a constant state of renewal! You don’t have to always be the way you are right now. You need to stop taking “no” for an answer when you ask, “Is there anything I can do to get better?”
2. Change Your Limiting Belief
THIS IS A BIGGIE. Right now, when you feel pain, I’m going to assume your belief system says, “There’s something wrong with me.” You can also read that as, “I’m broken.”
Instead, what if we make a slight paradigm shift so your belief system states, “My body’s simply trying to tell me something.” Tony Robbins has this to say about your belief system:
Our beliefs are like unquestioned commands, telling us how things are, what’s possible and what’s impossible, what we can and cannot do. They shape every action, every thought, and every feeling that we experience. As a result, changing our belief systems is central to making any real and lasting change in our lives.
I love that–“unquestioned commands.” Think about that. Whether you believe you can heal or whether you believe you can’t…you’re right. The body doesn’t question what it’s being told. It simply believes it.
This year, believe in the body’s ability to change!
3. Change Your Strategy
We all know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If what you’ve tried in the past hasn’t eliminated your pain, it’s time to change your strategy! Take a new approach. Think about your symptoms in a different light (see Change Your Limiting Belief above). Just as a general might change strategy in the heat of the battle, you might need to as well.
Maybe you need to ask new questions. Seek out a different health practitioner. Get a second opinion. Think outside the box. Explore new possibilities and options.
Did you know that you’re never wrong? (I’ll tell your spouse that for you if you’d like). I’m a firm believer that you know exactly what needs to happen in order for your body to heal. I honestly believe you already know what the strategy needs to be. But will you change your belief system and allow yourself to be right? Will you raise your standards and stop believing that your current condition is your health destiny?
